The Calling

A look at America through religious leaders in training, this four-hour documentary series for PBS follows Catholic, Muslim, Jewish and Christian students as they finish studies in seminaries around the country and begin to minister in today’s world.

Veracity Productions’ Alicia Dwyer directed the stories of evangelical students Rob Pene, a Samoan Christian rapper grappling with his faith, and Jeneen Robinson, a single mother learning to preach in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Watch a trailer for the film here.

Produced by The Kindling Group with funding from ITVS, PBS, Henry Luce Foundation, Hartley Film Foundation, Irving Harris Foundation, Pacific Islanders in Communications, and many others, the PBS national broadcast was a flagship of the 2010 Independent Lens season.
